Going into recruitment as a freshman over three years ago, I felt jitters, excitement, and also a lot of pressure! It is a week of putting your best foot forward. A week of meeting many new people and gaining so much new information. It can be extremely over whelming! I felt an extra sense of pressure because I was a legacy to Alpha Phi. My sister was a member of Alpha Phi, so in high school I got to hear about her amazing experience with women that became her best friends! I also had friends in almost all of the sororities who had told me about their amazing experiences as well. I was already being pulled in 100 different directions before starting recruitment! I was determined to go into recruitment with an open mind and see which women I connected with most. When walking into Alpha Phi on the first day of recruitment, I can only describe it as an overwhelming sense of peace and calm. I honestly did not want to leave! The women I talked to were smart, driven, goofy, kind, engaging, hilarious, and inspiring. I knew I wanted to be like these women, an Alpha Phi woman. College is a time to make mistakes and figure out who you are and what you want to be. I was confident that with these incredible women surrounding me, I would have no difficulty doing just that. On the last day of recruitment, I felt at home in Alpha Phi, and not just because the house is beautiful and welcoming, but because the women made me feel loved, cherished, and at home. I aspired to be like the women in Alpha Phi who were doing astounding things and were so confident in who they are. On bid day I sprinted to Alpha Phi and jumped into the arms of the women who I now called my sisters! There is no better feeling in the world than finding the place where you belong! Looking back over the last three and a half years in Alpha Phi, I can’t pinpoint one specific memory that has been my favorite. But I can pinpoint my favorite feeling. Knowing that I am never alone. Feeling the strong sense of sisterhood and selflessness. I know that at any point, my sisters will drop anything for a friend in need. Whether it is a need to laugh, cry, or just be there in the presence of one another. I feel absolutely honored to be able to wear the Alpha Phi letters on campus. The friendships I have made will last a lifetime. As my senior class graduates and moves all over the country to start amazing careers, I have no doubt that our friendships won't thrive through all of our stages in life.
